Healthy Skin
Do body firming creams actually work?
It’s common for skin to feel less firm and plump with age and it’s because, as we grow older, our collagen and elastin levels naturally decline. If it’s something that’s bothering you, you might have considered trying a body firming cream. But, do they really work?
Are body firming creams a waste of money?
One quick Google search of firming creams shows a vast range of products promising firmer bodies, more taut ‘bingo wings’, and even making cellulite vanish overnight.
Sound too good to be true?
While firming creams aren’t going to make dramatic and permanent changes instantly, they can add a more temporary firmness to the skin.
They work on the premise that hydrated skin looks and feels firmer. And hydrated skin is definitely not a bad thing!
Ingredients that can be helpful in making skin feel more supple, tighter and smooth, include peptides and vitamin A derivatives such as retinol, which can both promote collagen and elastin production.
Some body firming products also use caffeine, which can help to minimise the appearance of cellulite.
The takeaway? While they can’t perform miracles, firming creams can be a helpful tool to ensure skin feels supple and hydrated – as long as they’re packed with the right ingredients.
For a longer-term solution for firmer skin, lifestyle changes like lifting weights can help us to tone up. And, if you have sagging skin as a result of weight loss, it could be that you consider more invasive treatments including surgery.
Here are some body firming products that we love (and will make a difference!)
Legology Air-Lite
This firming cream’s benefits are clinically-proven, containing lemon for its antioxidant benefits and caffeine to improve the appearance of cellulite. Legology recommends massaging the cream firmly into the skin in an upwards direction – your legs should be pink afterwards! Keep the product in the fridge for an added instant lift.

Sol De Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream
A cult favourite, Bum Bum Cream is formulated with guaraná extract, which is five times richer in caffeine than coffee. It’s also rich in fatty acids and antioxidants, making it a fantastic option for mature skin.
