Looking for the perfect savoury snack? This festive savoury cheese biscuit recipe is the ideal finger food to serve at Christmas. What’s more, with just a few simple ingredients, these cheesy stars couldn’t be easier to make.
There’s always an abundance of cheese around at this time of year. This savoury cheese biscuit recipe is ideal for using up any leftovers and titbits you might have in the fridge. It even works well with Parmesan rinds. Just be sure to blitz up any particularly hard pieces in a food processor until finely ground.
We love to add a teaspoon of turmeric here. Not only does this fabulous spice bring a gorgeous splash of colour, it has a number of wellbeieng benefits too. Turmeric has an active compound called ‘curcumin’ that has been shown to exhibit antibacterial, antioxidising, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity, as well as cancer-fighting potential. It’s what gives turmeric its yellow colour too.

Ingredients
- 25g soft butter
- 50g self-raising flour
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 100g grated cheese of any variety
- Black pepper
Method
- Heat the oven to 200°C/400°F/gas mark 6.
- Put the butter and flour into a large mixing bowl and rub together to form fine breadcrumbs.
- Add in the turmeric, cheese and black pepper and mix thoroughly, then begin to squeeze the mixture together to form a doughy ball. The warmth of your hands should be enough to achieve this, but if your mixture keeps crumbling and refuses to form a ball, add a few drops of water.
- Roll out the dough onto a lightly floured surface until 2mm thick. Using a star-shaped cutter, cut the dough and carefully place onto two greased baking trays. Knead together any leftover trimmings and repeat until all the dough has been used.
- Prick each star with a fork, before baking in the oven for eight to 10 minutes. These burn quite easily, so keep an eye on them. Place on a wire rack to cool and crisp up.
