Green kefir shake recipe
This green kefir shake recipe is a great way to start the day. It’s full of ingredients to help power your body, from your muscles to your microbiome! Kefir is one of the simplest and surest ways of getting probiotics into the diet, helping to keep good gut bugs diverse and plentiful, supporting our immune system and improving mood too.
The nutrient-dense chlorella also packs a powerful health punch. This fresh water algae is rich in potent antioxidants to better protect our cells from excess free radical damage. It’s also an excellent source of omega-3s – good for helping keep the brain sharp. Liz also loves to include freshly squeezed or powdered turmeric in this green shake recipe for its anti-inflammatory properties. This can help to protect your heart health as well as preventing chronic inflammation (just combine with a little freshly ground black pepper to increase its bio-availability).
Liz makes her shake with the six simple ingredients here, but it’s also the perfect base for personalising. Add banana for children who prefer something sweeter and a bit more calorific if they’re burning up more energy during the day. It sets them up for a busy school day with a baseline of good nutrition.
Try a splash of natural vanilla extract and raw honey – unblended, from a bee keeper – for a sweeter treat. Half a teaspoon of ground cinnamon also gives the smoothie a great favour and is reputed to help curb sugar cravings. You might also like to add the contents of a probiotic capsule. A Bimuno prebiotic sachet (Save up to 29% when you subscribe or use code LIZLOVES at checkout to save 15% off a 1-month trial.) or even a splash of liquid hyaluronic acid to help support more youthful-looking skin. A simple shake really can be the perfect vessel to squeeze in your supplements any time of the day.
