Autumn makeup ideas to freshen up your look
Looking for autumn makeup ideas? As the seasons change, the way we approach our beauty routine does too.
Here, we speak to makeup artist and Liz Earle Wellbeing columnist Hannah Martin. She shares her top autumn makeup ideas to refresh your look for the season ahead.
The best autumn makeup products
Start with foundation
We can turn to hydrating foundations to make skin glow with our autumn makeup.
The BECCA Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation feels weightless on the skin, and its subtle illuminating pearls help to blur the appearance of fine lines and pores. It’s lightweight but you can build it for more coverage.
Clarins Skin Illusion foundation is another lightweight base that’s full of nourishing oils to hydrate and keep skin supple without feeling sticky.
Add definition to your features
Blush is never not an option in my opinion, but switch out your brighter summer colours for softer tones. BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Luminous Blush in the shade Snapdragon is one of my favourites. ByMe Pure Power Blush in the shade Margarita Peach is another good option.
The perfect autumn eye shadow
Peachy, burnt orange and taupe tones come into their own for autumn makeup looks. The Charlotte Tilbury Easy Eye Palette in the shade Charlotte Darling is perfect for anyone looking for exactly those. The creamy powder shadows blend easily and stay in place all day.
I also love Juvia’s Place Warrior Palette – it’s affordable and has excellent tones for this time of year.
Both palettes contain shimmery as well as matte shades, but are finely milled for a flattering finish – no chunky metallics in sight!
Finish your look with mascara
Mascara is having a major moment this autumn with lots of incredible new launches.
Marc Jacobs At Lash’d Mascara is a lengthening and curling long-wear formula. The bristle brush is designed to evenly coat each lash, prevent clumps and crumbling. It also happens to be vegan.
Hourglass has a cruelty-free offering in the form of its new Unlocked Instant Extensions Mascara. It’s a comb that helps to keep lashes defined and fanned out while also adding volume and length. It’s a tubing mascara, so to remove you simply massage the eyes with warm water.
Lancôme has also released an impressively volumising mascara. I love the classic Monsieur Big Mascara, but the new Monsieur Big Mascara Extreme Black is on another level and promises to stay put for up to 24 hours without smudging.
