How to make nail cuticle oil at home
Making your own nourishing cuticle oil can be an effective way to keep your nails feeling and looking great.
Dry cuticles are something of a hazard as the weather begins to take a turn. Cold days and dry indoor heat can take the moisture out of hands. The good news is that a nourishing cuticle oil helps to keep the skin around your nails gorgeously soft and supple. Plus, it couldn’t be easier to make at home, as we explain here.
How to make a cuticle oil
What you’ll need for your cuticle oil
- Empty nail varnish bottle
- Your choice of oil (either olive, almond or jojoba)
- A few drops of your favourite essential oil (we love lavender)
Method
Fill your empty nail varnish bottle with your chosen oil. Add a few drops of essential oil (we added four but it depends on how strong a scent you desire). Give your bottle a gentle shake.
Paint your cuticles with the oil. Sit back and relax as the oil soaks in.
Enjoy a nourishing treatment for your nails
You can also use this technique to create a deeply nourishing nail bath treatment. Simply add your chosen oil to a small bowl or saucer with a few drops of your favourite essential oil. Soak your nails for around five to 10 minutes to allow the oil to soak into the nailbed.
This technique is especially good if you have brittle nails as it helps to keep the nail strong while nourishing dry cuticles.
