What happened when I visited a ‘tree hotel’ and slept among the treetops

Liz Earle reviews her stay at My Arbor, a unique wellness hotel situated among green pines in the Dolomite mountains.

My Arbor review – a tree hotel in the Dolomites

Nestled in the breathtaking Dolomite mountains, My Arbor is an unparalleled retreat for alpine luxury, relaxation and a deep connection with nature.

This unique destination spa hotel impresses from the moment you arrive, perched high in the treetops, providing a stunning panorama of the surrounding mountains. Its design combines modern elegance with natural tree-trunk architecture, creating a tranquil – yet invigorating – vibe from the moment you step through its tall doors.

A spa with a view

The spa at My Arbor is a true highlight, with traditional and holistic treatments (including acupressure and cupping) to rejuvenate both body and soul. From the signature alpine massage to the restorative body wraps, each treatment incorporates natural ingredients sourced from the local environment.

Each of the skilled therapists I met were attentive and highly professional (I can recommend the couples’ treatment room if you’re staying with someone special).

One standout feature is the forest bathing experience, where guests are taken on guided walks to immerse in the serene woodland and experience the healing properties of the woodland surroundings. My morning walks with Manuel (slipping shoes and socks off for a spot of ‘grounding’ ) were a genuine highlight, as were his afternoon aromatic sauna sessions, followed by a bracing al-fresco cold plunge beneath the snow-capped mountains.

The facilities are second to none, with an indoor-outdoor heated pool overlooking mesmerizing views of the Dolomites. The sauna area is expansive, offering a choice of options, including a Finnish sauna, bio sauna, and steam bath – each set to different temperatures. The relaxation rooms, with their cosy loungers and panoramic windows, provide the perfect spot to unwind after a treatment too. In fact, there are many spaces throughout the hotel to curl up with a good book or podcast, or simply lie back and admire the impressive views.

Sleep among the trees

The bedrooms at My Arbor are equally geared to resting up, well-equipped and blend contemporary design with a rustic charm. Large windows and private balconies bring the outside in, allowing guests to wake up to the sight of misty mountains and lush forests.

The attention to detail is evident in every aspect, from the quality bathrobes and bedding to the eco-friendly toiletries.

Food to indulge in

Dining at My Arbor is truly special, though. The main restaurant offers a menu that celebrates local and seasonal produce (much of the organic produce comes from the owner’s own family farm or their neighbours) with a focus on healthy, flavourful dishes.

Breakfast is an extraordinarily lavish affair, featuring a vast selection of fresh fruits, artisanal breads, pastured dairy and organic options. The menu changes daily and, frankly, my only regret with the food was not having a larger capacity to eat more. Rarely have I wanted to eat the entire menu – at every sitting…

Final thoughts

The staff at My Arbor are also exceptional. Genuinely warm, professional, and welcoming. My stay felt as though I was visiting old friends.

Whether you’re seeking adventure in the Dolomites or a peaceful sanctuary to relax and rejuvenate, My Arbor offers a genuinely unforgettable escape. I highly recommended a stay here or those looking to reconnect with nature while indulging in luxurious comfort. I am looking forward to returning.
