Homemade lavender-scented face & pillow spritzer

This simple homemade lavender DIY face and body mist is the ideal antidote to restless nights.

Lavender has been known for its calming and soothing effects for millennia. It’s thought the Greeks and the Romans liked to add it to their bath water, and not only for its divine fragrance. And now it seems modern science proves they were on to something as there have been a number of clinical studies that have shown lavender can help to promote relaxation and sleep.

To help aid your own sleep, simply make up a batch of this simple mist with lavender essential oil and spritz it on your face and body. Or even give your pillow a light spray.

Liz writes:

This mist is perfect for spritzing over face and body as a cooling tonic during those menopausal ‘tropical’ moments! With fragrant essential oils, it also works well as a refreshing room spray. As well as calming lavender, I also like to use uplifting geranium or sweet neroli.

Buying small bottles of lavender oil can be expensive, so buy in larger bottles and decant into small bottles as needed. I buy the 100ml size Naissance pure lavender oil, which is high quality and exceptionally good value, bottled in amber glass.

How to make a lavender pillow spritz

Ingredients

  • 125 ml bottled or filtered water (to avoid the smell of chlorine)
  • Lavender, geranium or neroli essential oils

Method

  1. Fill an empty spray bottle with pure, clean water and add in 8-10 drops of your favourite floral essential oil (lavender, neroli and geranium all work well). Flower oils are gentle on the skin and smell the best.
  2. Shake well.
  3. Close your eyes and spritz over face and neck to refresh.
