About Hartwell House

With a history stretching back nearly 1,000 years, Hartwell House is no ordinary hotel. The ancestral seat of some of England’s most illustrious families and filled with antique treasures, it’s a regal escape that takes luxury to a different level.

Recipient of four Red Stars (the AA’s supreme accolade for hotels), the property boasts award-winning seasonal dining, a fully-equipped spa complete with Club Room, and historically restored rooms and suites — all set within 90 acres of dreamy grounds.

Wander through the Georgian interiors, marvel at the decorative ceilings, and walk in the footsteps of dignitaries, presidents, and royalty who have graced its spaces. Visit the library, the site where King Louis XVIII of France signed his accession document to the French throne, and take a moment to browse the archaic books and admire the lustrous furnishings.

Amble through the grounds and admire the property’s Jacobean facade. The gardens were designed early in the 18th century and offer a serene space for residents and guests to unwind. Explore the follies and canals of the parkland and visit the on-site orchard (whose apples supply the juice for breakfast service). Cross the stone bridge over the lake and feel the modern world fade from view.

Within a few minutes’ walk you’ll find the hotel spa, nestled into Hartwell Court. Unwind in the steam room, large pool, spa bath, and saunas, or work up a sweat in the gymnasium or all-weather tennis courts. The gallery above, with outdoor patio, serves as the Hartwell Club Room, and offers a selection of complimentary refreshments and fruits.

Nearby, you can pay a visit to the quaint market town of Aylesbury, located two miles away. Or savour the flower-filled woodlands and sweeping chalk hills of the Chilterns, a designated Area of Outstanding National Beauty just a stone’s throw away.

Dining at Hartwell House

With menus crafted with locally sourced ingredients and designed by Executive Head Chef, Daniel Richardson, dining is truly a highlight. Take a journey through fresh, seasonal flavours that champion the best of British produce, all set within a tranquil candle-lit ambiance.

Thankfully, you’ll get the opportunity to experience the delights of Hartwell’s kitchen on a second occasion, this time from the historic surroundings of the Morning Room, Drawing Room or Library. What better way to indulge than with a champagne afternoon tea fit for royalty? Spoil yourself with a selection of baked buttermilk scones, delectable patisseries, and home-made sandwiches, all paired with a flute of dancing bubbles.
