Rooms with a view

Rooms are generously sized, comfortable and luxurious, but it’s their seamless connection with the outdoors that truly sets them apart. Each space exudes the kind of relaxed elegance that makes you feel at home while indulging in a little luxury. Soft linens, plush armchairs and vintage touches create a calming sanctuary for relaxation. But perhaps the real star is the view – gazing out of your window to see lush gardens, ancient trees, and Devon’s green valleys stretching beyond is a daily reminder of the natural beauty that surrounds you here.

The Potting Shed Spa: an organic escape

Fancy a little self-care? The miniature Potting Shed Spa is truly delightful and steeped in natural wellbeing. True to the ethos of THE PIG brand, the spa feels as though it’s always been a part of the landscape – a converted outbuilding that radiates rustic charm.

Beauty botanicals sitting seamlessly beside gardener’s tools… I loved the Potting Shed’s intimacy; it’s a world away from the vast, corporate spa spaces I’m more used to reviewing. Here, treatments focus on simplicity, using locally-sourced organic products and plant-based oils. Signature treatments like their organic herb-infused massages are a testament to their commitment to natural therapies, to rejuvenate and reconnect to the environment. Afterwards, I sat in the serene garden area, sipping herbal tea and soaking in the tranquility.

Kitchen garden glory

One of THE PIG’s biggest draws is its kitchen garden, which is not just for show. It’s the heart and soul of their farm-to-fork philosophy, where an astonishing array of fruits, vegetables, herbs, and edible flowers are grown to supply the hotel’s restaurant. Walking through the neat rows of beds, it’s easy to see the love and care that go into each plant, making every meal here feel like a celebration of nature.

Dining at THE PIG at Combe is also a joy for the senses. The chefs create seasonal dishes that celebrate local produce, often gathered just a few hours before reaching your plate. You might start with a light, fragrant salad composed of heritage vegetables and edible flowers straight from the garden, followed by a hearty, flavour-packed main sourced from nearby farms. The wine list is equally impressive, with a focus on small, biodynamic vineyards that mirror the hotel’s commitment to sustainability.

In a nutshell

As with other PIG hotels in the group, THE PIG at Combe isn’t just a hotel or a restaurant – it’s an immersive experience. From the soothing treatment rooms of the Potting Shed Spa to the fresh, flavourful dishes at the restaurant, every moment here speaks of a deep connection to the land. This dedication to sustainability, local produce, and natural wellbeing creates an atmosphere that’s both calming and enriching. A commitment that carries through to the universally charming and friendly staff.

Whether you’re escaping for a weekend of restorative treatments, wandering through the flourishing kitchen garden, or simply relaxing in the comfort of your room, THE PIG at Combe offers a rejuvenating retreat that nourishes both body and soul.
