About Middlethorpe Hall

Set in 20 acres of curated gardens and just a stone’s throw from York city centre, Middlethorpe Hall offers a serene retreat in the heart of one of England’s most historic destinations. With 29 individually decorated rooms and suites, an award-winning restaurant and a coveted location, it’s a place where relaxation and exploration can go hand in hand.

Whether you’re looking to discover the hidden streets of the Shambles, or you’d rather stay put with some undisturbed pampering on-site, this refined country estate couldn’t be more accommodating. Indulgent dining, a well-equipped spa, and parkland rich with centennial trees and resident roe deer — it’s a place of true tranquility.

Middlethorpe Hall is one of three Historic House Hotels of the National Trust. Alongside Bodysgallen Hall and Hartwell House, it was donated in 2008 to preserve its cultural heritage and ensure its long-term protection. Take just a few moments in the library, drawing room, or even your own bedroom, and you’ll stumble upon antiques steeped in history, and curious artifacts with stories to tell.

Blending authentic furnishings with modern amenities, rooms and suites offer comfort and style in equal measure. Many boast views over the south lawn or beech avenue, and feature fine paintings that teleport you to a distant time.

The Spa at Middlethorpe Hall

Included in the prize package is unlimited access to Middlethorpe Hall’s esteemed spa. Take a short walk from reception and discover a range of facilities, all built behind the façades of two Edwardian cottages. Have a detoxing session in the steam room or sauna, enjoy refreshments in the club room, take a swim in the indoor pool or simply let stress dissipate in the bubbles of the warm spa bath.

Dining at Middlethorpe Hall

What better way to round-off a day of sightseeing in the city or putting your feet up on-site than with an opulent candlelit dinner? Proud holder of two AA Rosettes, the restaurant combines seasonal ingredients (many of which are grown in the gardens) with imaginative menu design, led by Head Chef Ashley Binder and Pastry Chef Paul Harrison.

You’ll also enjoy a hearty breakfast each morning — the perfect fuel for a day of amusements — and Champagne afternoon tea on one day. Think tiered sandwiches, delicate pastries, and a selection of delicious teas, all accompanied by a shimmering glass of bubbles.
