Inside the resort that kickstarts fitness journeys (without a bootcamp in sight)

Tucked away in the sandy coves and cliff-backed beaches of the Algarve, you’ll find Quinta do Lago. Here, world-class fitness facilities combine with restorative experiences and outdoor adventure for a truly one-of-a-kind stay.
Whether you’re a regular gym bunny, or looking for somewhere to kickstart your fitness regime, Quinta do Lago has it all. This luxury resort offers an alternative to high-intensity retreats and rigorous transformation programmes with expert support on-hand.
Plus, with standout gastronomy and vibrant social spaces, getting in shape has never felt better…
The Campus at Quinta do Lago

The Campus is a thriving sports hub and the cornerstone of Quinta do Lago’s wellness offering. It features everything from group classes and personal training to tennis, padel and swimming. Expect a friendly environment to build your confidence, with an expert team on-hand for additional support.
“The Campus’ community-focussed atmosphere ensures that everyone feels comfortable and inspired to achieve their personal fitness goals,” says Michelle O’Donoghue, general manager at The Campus. “With encouragement and specialised experiences, women of all ages can trust their trainers, meet likeminded individuals and ease back into movement.”
Plus, thanks to recovery facilities like a sauna, steam room and plunge pools, it’s ideal for those navigating injury, mobility challenges or any post-activity fatigue. Guests can access physiotherapy or work with on-site rehabilitation teams to explore tailored recovery plans, nutritional guidance, preventative care and all-round support.
Where to eat

When it comes to dining, Quinta do Lago is a master at showcasing food that is both healthy and satisfying.
You’ll find 14 restaurants spread across the resort. These range from refined Asian cuisine at Umami and ultra-fresh seafood at Casa do Lago to relaxed eating at Dano’s sports bar or the Pavilion café at The Campus. It’s a place where pleasure and wellness coexist in perfect balance.
It’s easy to work up an appetite, too. After an afternoon of activity (in our case, a private padel class and several lengths of the 25 metre outdoor pool) we enjoy an evening of artisanal cocktails and signature cuts at Bovino Steakhouse. Between the day’s movement and the filet steak, bernaise asparagus and creamy mash, we are primed for the heaviest of sleeps when our heads hit our pillows.
Much of the food at Quinta do Lago’s eateries is supplied by Q Farm. This is an in-resort agricultural initiative that cultivates aromatic herbs, vegetables and other organic produce. Crops harvested in the morning appear on plates by lunchtime, guaranteeing the freshest ingredients and heartiest flavours, backed by sustainable farming practices.
Accommodation

Quinta do Lago caters for a variety of budgets with its accommodation. Choose from a range of private rental homes, villas, town houses, luxury apartments or hotels.
We stay at the Magnolia Hotel. This boutique hideaway (complete with a 1950s Palm Springs aesthetic) is located right on the doorstep of the resort and about a 15-minute drive from Faro airport. Charming and relaxed, it strikes a sweet spot between design-led flair and easygoing comfort. It’s a great base to explore both the complex and surrounding area.
The hotel features an outdoor pool, gymnasium, restaurant, cocktail bar, cinema, spa and even a sand sports court. In addition to rooms and suites, you can also choose from a range of self-contained cottages. These are ideal if you’re looking to temper the indulgence of eating out with some simple meals cooked at home.
Holistic wellness

For all its active credentials, what really elevates Quinta do Lago is its holistic offering, proving that there’s much more to wellness than simply sweating it out in the gym.
Explore the sandy dunes of the 60km Ria Formosa coastal stretch, enjoy a round of golf on one of the world-class courses, or turn your hand to watersports on the lake.
For something a little less outdoorsy, try a session at the newly-appointed Q reformer Pilates studio. On days when a little less movement calls, there are game nights, live music and even culinary classes to sample.
At Casa Velha, cooking masterclasses begin with visits to Loulé market and Q Farm. Learn how to source and utilise healthy ingredients in dishes that are as nourishing as they are delicious.
“Under the guidance of head chefs like José Botelho, guests prepare dishes that showcase the best Algarve ingredients,” says Michelle. “The sessions encourage guests to embrace eating with intention. They typically feature plant-rich dishes and farm-to-table mains with seafood and lean proteins.”
The verdict
Quinta do Lago proves you don’t need to overhaul your life to start making positive changes. With its breadth of experiences and expert support, it offers a space to move at your own pace and find what feels good—all while still enjoying standout dining and a cocktail worth dressing up for.
Rooms at the Magnolia Hotel start at €116/£98 on a B&B basis, with discounted access to The Campus available.
