Easy homemade Christmas decorations
Orange pomanders

You will need:
- A zester
- A large orange
- A handful of cloves
- Use the larger hole-shaped blade of the zester to carve out your pattern in the orange skin. To be on the safe side, draw your pattern on first with a felt-tip pen.
- Push clove studs into the grooves in a second pattern across the orange.
- Repeat on several oranges, using different designs.
- Display your oranges as a group to make the most of the citrussy, fresh and festive scent.
Magazine Christmas tree

You will need:
- An old magazine
- Spray mount
- Glitter
- A small terracotta pot or eggcup
- If you’re using a magazine with a spine, break the spine in four places before you begin.
- Take the cover page and fold the corner down so the top of the page meets the inside length of the spine. Repeat on every page.
- Fold every page again, in the same way, so the diagonal fold meets the inside spine.
- Every page will now have a flap at the bottom, which needs to be made flat. Take the flap, fold it up and tuck it into the fold in front so the tree has a solid base. Put the top of the tree into a mug to support it while you fold the bottom.
- When your tree is complete, spray liberally with spray mount (in a ventilated area) and apply glitter (we like the eco-friendly EcoStardust).
- Sit your tree in a small pot or eggcup to enjoy.
String bauble decorations

You will need:
- Small balloons
- PVA glue
- Water
- Paintbrush
- String
- Ribbon
- A cup or pot
- Scissors
- Blow up the balloons to the desired size of your bauble and tie with a knot.
- Mix equal parts water and PVA glue and paint a thin layer over the balloon.
- Hold down the end of your string next to the knot and wrap the string around the balloon.
- Continue wrapping the string around the balloon, crisscrossing as you go.
- Glue the end of the string down and cover the balloon and string in another layer of the glue/water mix. Place in a cup or pot to dry. For the strongest bauble, leave to dry for three to four days.
- One the balloon is dry, pop it with scissors and use a toothpick to remove the balloon. Thread a piece of ribbon through to hang the bauble on your tree.
